This a more detailed and slightly updated version of the Starfire redesign I did recently that was featured over on Project Rooftop.

Kind of a weird thing but the first thing that caught my eye and that I LOVE is her stomach: it folds and ripples like a real woman’s, instead of bending smoothly like paper like I see too often.

I love the heft and feel of her body in this picture: She feels substantial and like she can move planets and wreck stuff.

INCREDIBLE.

this picture is amazing fabulous fierce and everything but the comment above kind of rubs me the wrong way. thin women are also ”real women” and just because ones belly doesn’t fold like that doesn’t make one less of a woman. maybe it wasn’t intentioned to come across that way but it did.

Actually I’m pretty sure that all women, men, human beings, primates, humanoid robots covered in silicone, get folds of skin whenever, wherever, they bend their bodies. It’s just how skin works. My tiny, 90lb friend gets them. Super cut, gym rat dudes get them, average shlubby lady me gets them. Every other woman on earth I’ve seen that hasn’t been mutilated by photoshop has them. Usually not in the exact shape, pattern or combination of skin, fat and muscle that I drew Starfire with, but they’re there.

I’m pretty sure everyone who says “she looks like a real woman!” mean that she looks like a woman who could theoretically exist in the real world where you could see a lady with her body hanging out on the beach, folds visible on her belly when she leans forward to put sunblock on her legs, which isn’t often represented in comic book illustration.

I make it my job to shamelessly oogle various human beings at every opportunity and I can tell you that saying someone has folds in their belly constitutes a real woman isn’t crossing some sort of exclusionary line that requires the language police.
